Our Story

Brodie George — Founder, Artist & Creative Director of Jalayimiya

I am a Walmajarri/Gooniyandi woman, The name Jalayimiya is my Aboriginal name — a reflection of kinship and grass roots connection.

My designs are born from Country. Each pattern and palette tells a story inspired by the desert art of my mob, reimagined through the lens of modern design. What began as a creative outlet has evolved into a brand that celebrates women, culture and confidence through wearable art.

Though I now live in Perth, my work always takes me back home to family, to Country, and to the place that raised me - Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley, Western Australia.

Jalayimiya Story
Founded in 2022, Jalayimiya began as an Aboriginal-owned swimwear label merging art, culture and sustainability. Each piece begins as a painting — a visual story from Country — and transforms into luxurious, wearable art designed to celebrate women in all their stages of life.

From hand-painted beginnings to international runways, Jalayimiya has grown into a movement that honours culture and embraces every body. The brand debuted at New York Fashion Week in 2024 and has since been featured in international Elle Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar and locally The Sunday Times PerthNow, The Urban List, Mamamia and Style Up.

Model Billie-Jean Hamlet, who is my sister (first cousin) one of Australia’s leading Indigenous models and the face of national campaigns for Country Road and Seafolly, recently featured in a Jalayimiya campaign that celebrates authentic representation and the strength of First Nations women. Her involvement marks a full-circle moment after previously collaborating with me on youth empowerment workshops in Fitzroy Crossing, where we worked together to help young women build confidence through creativity and self-expression.

Now expanding beyond swimwear into The Wardrobe — a collection of timeless, tactile clothing — Jalayimiya continues to honour its roots while redefining luxury for real women. Every piece reflects connection: to self, to Country and to culture.
